About Us
The Skillin School Parent Teacher Association supports Dr. Waldo T. Skillin Elementary School in South Portland, Maine. We connect the school to student’s families and the broader community. By working together, we strives to create a supportive community that enriches the educational journey of every child, fostering a positive and inclusive school experience.
The PTA is a great opportunity to gain information about what's happening in the school and share your ideas, comments, issues, and suggestions for future activities, events, and directions. We welcome you to be involved, have a voice, and join the fun!
Our Mission
The Skillin School PTA’s mission is to provide charitable and educational support for Skillin Elementary students by working with parents, teachers and administrators to provide quality programs and enrichments. We fund these activities through direct fundraising as well as a variety of community-based activities.

Enhance the joy and well-being of Skillin Elementary School students and staff in a way that complements and enriches our excellent learning environment
Promote positive school and community relations by fostering communication between school administrators, teachers, staff, parents, and the South Portland community
Provide recognition for administrators, teachers, and staff
Build community within the school, and enrich the relationship between the school, families, and the wider community
Encourage the community's investment of time, energy and financial support into Skillin Elementary

Field Trips
We fundraise to cover the cost of field trips for all classes, so all students can go on FREE field trips
Teacher & Staff Appreciation
We support our teachers and staff with a stocked teacher's lounge
Community Events
We plan events that bring the Skillin community together, like Family Game Night and Playground Meetups
Special Projects
We research and apply for grants that will directly benefit Skillin, like the new playground
Enrichment Events
We fundraise to bring fun programs to the school, like the Chewonki Traveling Natural History Program
Surprise & Delight
We bring the fun to regular school days, like Popcorn Fridays
