April PTA Meeting Highlights
We had a great meeting last Wednesday, thank you to all that attended! Here are some highlights of our discussion…
Katy gave an update on recent efforts
Teacher’s Conference Lunches: Thank you to the volunteers who set up and helped during the events. The teachers are really feeling the love from the PTA, a nice meal on their long conference days really makes a difference.
Playground Meetup: Turnout was impressive! Over a dozen families from all Skillin neighborhoods came out to have fun and kick off Spring.
Water Bottle Donation: Some students were in need of water bottles, the PTA was able to help by purchasing 24 water bottles with the new Skyhawk logo sticker on them. Extra bottles are available for students who need them.
Our April restaurant night fundraisers were a success, we raised $193 from Elsmere and $113 from Chipotle. Expect to see another restaurant night in May.
Results from the Family Survey were shared. Thank you to everyone that provided feedback, we exceeded our goal with 160 responses! The key takeaways are:
Families want most funds to be put towards classroom and playground supplies and field trips.
The majority of families thought a reasonable contribution for the year is $50-75.
The most popular fundraiser is one that is child participation based (get ready for the May Moveathon!), the least popular is catalog sales.
67% of families have increased their giving this year, primarily to make a positive impact on the school.
A weekly email newsletter and take home flyers in the red folders are the preferred communication methods.
Most families were interested in adding a Science Night and End of Year Carnival for next year. Based on budget and volunteers we hope to be able to make these events happen.

Planning for the Moveathon is in full swing, we’re excited for this new health and wellness focused student participation fundraiser. All money raised will be put towards the playground project, beautification of the Skillin grounds (including the Learning Gardens), and recess gear.
Claire and Molly gave an update from the “Skillin Schooner” Classroom Helper Committee and the amazing daily activities they have planned for Teacher Appreciation Week 5/8-5/12. More information will be sent home shortly in the red folders.
Volunteers for upcoming events are needed! This is a great way to lend support to the PTA and Skillin students and help us finish the year strong. Events include: TGIF Spring Fling, Teacher Appreciation Week, NWEA testing motivational poster creation, Moveathon, 4th Grade Send Off Celebration at Wainwright Field, Field Day, and more.
