Planning has started for the 2023-24 school year. A strong, inclusive, and motivated PTA Board is essential to the success of the Skillin PTA.
Want to find out what PTA role best fits you? Below are descriptions and approximate time commitments for open Executive Board and Committee Captain roles. We are accepting applications now through April 10th and would love to see you get involved.

Are you ready to step up? We’re looking for creative problem-solvers who are comfortable delegating and who can help us focus on the agenda instead of talking about our kids or the latest episode of Abbot Elementary. A sense of humor is a big plus—and if you know how to say “no” without provoking a tantrum, even better. If you’re ready to play a substantial role in supporting our school, we want to hear from you!
Responsibilities & Duties:
Serves as the point of contact for the Principal
Works with Principal, Admin Staff, and PTA Executive Board to identify school community wants & needs
Creates plans for the year, including calendar, budget, and goals
Steers the work of the PTA Board and Committee Captains to ensure that the purpose and goals of the PTA is served
Coordinates the agenda for and leads PTA Membership meetings and Executive Board meetings
Actively promotes sponsorship for PTA initiatives
Serves as the point of contact for parents and members with questions about the PTA (and Skillin)
Represents the Skillin PTA at meetings outside the organization, such as the district-wide PTA meeting
Oversees Teacher and Staff Appreciation efforts throughout the school year
Guides members in finding their passion project for the PTA
Time Commitment: Average 5-10 hours per week, busiest at beginning of school year. Leads 1 PTA Executive Board Meeting and 1 PTA General Member Meeting a month.

So you’d like to get more involved in the school parent group, but you’re not sure you’re ready to take the lead role? Our vice president position has your name written all over it! You’ll learn behind-the-scenes intel and be part of decision making on important issues throughout the year. You’ll help the president get things done—kind of like a superhero’s sidekick, but without the silly costume.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Works with PTA President, Principal, and PTA Board on behalf of the PTA
Assists in the annual planning for the year, including calendar, budget & goals
Carries out the Presidents’ duties in their absence
Researches and organizes ways to connect with the surrounding community
Collaborates with and supports Committee Captains as needed
Time Commitment: Average 5 hours per week. Attends 1 PTA Executive Board Meeting and 1 PTA General Member Meeting a month.

The Events Committee organizes FUN and FREE family events throughout the school year
Responsibilities & Duties:
Plans and executes events for students, staff, and the Skillin community
Supports event coordinators to ensure they have the help and resources needed for a successful event
Assists in the execution of Teacher and Staff Appreciation week
Collaborates with Volunteer Coordination Captain to identify volunteer needs to support events
Existing events include: Back to School BBQ, Ice Cream Social, TGIF Family Nights, End of the Year Carnival, and Tears & Cheers Kindergarten Breakfast
Brainstorms, researches, and proposes new event opportunities
Time Commitment: Average 3 hours per week, busier when prepping for an event. Attends 1 PTA General Member Meeting a month.n text goes here

The Fundraising Committee puts the “fun” in fundraising by raising funds to support the entire PTA budget, while having FUN!
Responsibilities & Duties:
Oversees all fundraising activities during the school year
Works closely with fundraising coordinators to make sure fundraising goals are met
Maintains year-round fundraising efforts: CLYNK, Spirit Wear, Box Tops for Education, and Mabel's Labels
Researches and proposes new opportunities for fundraising
Time Commitment: Average 3 hours per week, busier when prepping for or during seasonal fundraisers. Attends 1 PTA General Member Meeting a month.

The Volunteer Coordination Committee recruits, schedules, and organizes volunteers for in-school and after hour PTA sponsored events
Responsibilities & Duties:
Focuses on recruiting parents and members of the community as volunteers for Skillin PTA events and efforts
Facilitates and raises awareness of the in-school volunteer approval process (application and volunteer training session)
Collaborates with the Event Captain and event coordinators to recruit volunteers for events
Collaborates with the Fundraising Captain and fundraising coordinators to recruit volunteers for fundraising events
Oversees the following initiatives: Fleet of Families, Popcorn Fridays, and Lost & Found
Time Commitment: Average 3 hours per week, busiest at the beginning of the year. Attends 1 PTA General Member Meeting a month.
