Arrival & Dismissal Information

A reminder about the arrival and dismissal procedures

If your child is taking the bus:

  • Bus arrival and dismissal will be supervised by staff. Students will enter the building via the bus loop door and report directly to their classrooms. There will be staff on duty in the hallway to help students find their classrooms. Kindergarten students will have seats at the front of the bus closest to the driver.

  • Please check the district website at www.spsdme.org for updated information from transportation. The transportation department can be reached at 207-767-7714 between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Information regarding bus routes will be shared prior to the start of school.

If your child is being dropped off or picked up in a car:

  • Students being dropped off will use the main entrance to enter/exit the building. Staff will be on duty in the hallways inside to help students get to their classrooms.

  • In the morning:

    • Students may not be dropped off before 8:45am. There is no playground supervision and students will need to remain in cars until a staff member directs them inside the building.

    • See this map of the drop off/pick up loop in front of the building.

    • There will be no parking in the mornings and afternoons.

    • All parents/guardians must remain in their cars and wait their turn in the pick up loop. A Skillin staff member will be there to receive and dismiss your child.

    • Traffic in the loop is one lane and one way.

    • Children should be ready to exit their vehicle - backpack ready and coat on.

    • Exiting onto Wescott Road will be RIGHT TURN ONLY to allow for smoother traffic flow.

  • In the afternoon:

    • Dismissal will begin at 3:10pm.

    • Students will be directed to a dismissal area first and then dismissed by staff to their parent/guardian cars.

    • Please pull all the way up in the loop so we can fit as many cars as possible.

    • Please be prepared to tell staff on duty your child’s name and grade.

    • Please safely and respectfully follow all staff directions. Dismissal is quicker and safer when we all work together!

If your child is walking:

  • Walkers must go to the blacktop behind school at arrival and dismissal. There will be staff on duty to let students in the building and supervise dismissal.

  • Walkers who are coming from Westbrook Street may use the main entrance rather than walking to the back of the building.

  • All K-2 students must be dismissed to an adult. If an older child (grades 4 or up) is responsible for picking up a younger child, please contact the office.

  • There is no playground supervision in the morning or afternoon. The South Portland Before/After Care program may be on the playground but their staff is not responsible for students not enrolled in that program.

  • Walkers should NOT walk through the parking lot during arrival/dismissal time!
