May PTA Meeting Highlights

It was our last meeting of the school year, and what a year it has been! This year has been a rebuilding year for the Skillin PTA, and we are building something amazing. We had strong participation and support for the entire year. Thank you so much to all of the volunteers and donors for your time and effort to support us, the school, and our students!

Some highlights of our discussion…

  • Tasha gave an update on recent efforts:

    • Spring Fling: A huge success! We had a great turnout with roughly 100 families joining us to celebrate the start of Spring.

    • Teacher Appreciation Week: A big thank you to the Skillin Schooners and all who volunteered and donated for Teacher Appreciation Week. Our teachers are feeling the love and are ending the year on a high note.

  • Tasha also gave an update on plans for the rest of the year:

    • Move-a-Thon: Our first annual Move-a-Thon is this Friday and we’re ready to go! Don’t forget to help your student gather pledges.

    • NWEA Test Week: Our students will need some motivational help during testing week. Thank you to all who volunteered to stuff goodie bags! The next ask is to create motivational posters for the whole school, if you have some time and creativity, reach out to SkillinSchoolPTA@gmail.com and we can drop off poster board at your house. When you’re done, simply drop your posters at the Main Office.

    • Countdown to Summer: Follow us on Facebook and Instagram and get ready for some fun giveaways during the last week of school!

  • Katy and Principal Connolly gave an exciting update on the Playground Project: the new playground will be installed this summer! Timing and finer details in progress but the new equipment is here and will be in place in late summer.

  • Tasha gave a look ahead to the 2023-2024 school year:

    • The Board has been finalized, but there are still some open roles.

      • A big welcome to our Interim Co-President Kristin Racine! Kristin is new to South Portland and will be working with Tasha over the summer to get up to speed and form strategies for next year. A vote will be held in September to officially appoint Kristin to the board.

      • Committee Captain positions are mostly filled, we are still looking for captains to head up the Events Committee and Teacher Appreciation Committee. Learn more about what’s involved here.

    • Our meeting cadence will be changing from a monthly member meeting to a bi-monthly member meeting.

Have a great summer and we’ll see you next year!
