Update from Superintendent Matheney (March)

Dear South Portland families and staff members,

I’m writing today with a few updates:

Solar Eclipse
As you know, Monday’s “Eclipse Day” is almost upon us. The school district will have an early release that day (moved from March 27). Here are a few eclipse information links (including safety tips) for your reference:

We’re hiring!
We are conducting searches for several key positions. You can see our full list of available positions here.

Today I’d like to highlight a key position in the Superintendent’s Office: Communications Specialist/Executive Assistant. We will begin interviewing candidates for this position after spring break. Please contact the district office (871-0555) if you have any questions about employment in the district.

Monday’s School Board Meeting
On Monday, the School Board will have a regular meeting starting at 6:00pm (SPHS Lecture Hall). Following the Board’s regular meeting, they will conduct a workshop on the recommendations of the Elementary Boundaries and Configurations Steering Committee. Here’s an overview of the agenda for that workshop:

  1. Remarks by Steering Committee Members

  2. Overview of Recommendations

  3. Discussion of Recommendations

  4. Discussion of Next Steps

  5. Public Comment

You can read a summary of the committee’s recommendations here. The Boundaries and Configurations web page can be located here. The Board is not currently scheduled to vote on any of the recommendations at Monday’s meeting.
