Weekly Skillin Scoop

The best way to stay in the know about important dates, calls-to-action, and other information that impacts our Skillin Skyhawks each week. Please take a moment to read this week’s announcements!

Come to the Playground Meetup next Sunday!

It’s the first Playground Meetup of the spring! Join us on the Skillin playground next Sunday, April 7 from 1:00-3:00 for an afternoon of drinks, snacks, and lots of fun.

Big thanks to Knickerbocker Group for sponsoring this month’s meetup!

It’s Popcorn Friday!

This Friday, April 5, we’ll be popping and delivering popcorn to every classroom

We couldn’t provide this free treat without a generous donation from Piper Electric!

We Need Your Help for the Spring Fling

Help us make the Spring Fling Family Fun Night on Friday, April 26th fun for everyone!

  • Book Swap: donate your gently used books so that all students who attend can go home with a book!

  • Craft: we need your clean, empty milk jugs so that all students can make a spring themed craft

Drop off your books and clean milk jugs in the basket outside the front office

We also need volunteers! Sign up for a quick 45 minute shift to help run a game (inside or outside!), help kids at the craft table, or even host the cupcake walk.

Get Ready for the Eclipse!

Next Monday, April 8 is an amazing event—a solar eclipse (and an early release day!) Students have been learning about the eclipse and the Skillin PTA will be sending all students and staff home with eclipse viewing glasses and a small activity packet.

PTA Meeting Recap

Thanks to everyone who came out on a rainy night for the March PTA All Member Meeting last week! A recap of our lively discussion:

  • Vice Principal Remsen gave an update on what’s been happening in the school

    • Be prepared for another round of PBIS surveys following Parent Teacher Conferences

    • Planning for the 4th Grade Celebration is underway, thanks to the success of the Raffle Calendar fundraiser it’s sure to be a great way to send our 4th graders off on their next adventure

  • Co-Presidents Tasha and Kristin gave an update on recent PTA activities and what’s to come in the Spring

    • A letter has been sent to Superintendent Matheny and the School Board highlighting the importance of and need for swings on the Skillin playground. We’re hopeful this will get our swing installation prioritized

    • Thank you so much to everyone who responded to the call to stock the Teacher’s Lounge coffee station! Our teachers now have what they need to stay energized through the remainder of the year

    • We’ve reinvigorated our restaurant nights and we’re excited to have some great ones coming up, especially Broadway Bowl and Uno’s during Spring Break week

  • Vice-President Katy gave an update on recent fundraising efforts

    • Mill Creek Tree Lighting was a great success, thanks to everyone who came out and purchased popcorn and cocoa

    • The Raffle Calendar was an example of amazing collaboration between all of the elementary PTAs and raised more than enough money for the 4th Grade Celebration

A change in leadership is upon us! Our fearless Co-Presidents and Vice President have reached the end of their terms, plus we’re in need for new leads for a few specific areas. We’re looking for Skillin parents with energy, enthusiasm, and ideas! Do what you can, even taking on one thing is hugely impactful. Open positions are…

  • President (opportunity for another set of Co-Presidents)

  • Vice President (opportunity for two people to be Co-Vice Presidents)

  • Family Fun Nights Lead

  • Playground Committee Lead

  • Garden Club Head
