The Move-a-Thon is Friday!

It’s the last week to collect donations and pledges for our second annual Move-a-Thon! The Move-a-Thon is a super fun student participation fundraiser where students run, walk, skip, and dance laps around the playground to raise money for our playground, recess equipment, and Learning Gardens.

If each student raises $50, we will meet our fundraising goal!

Students collect pledges or donations through May 24. Donors can pledge by flat donation or per lap around the playground completed (expect a student to complete 15 to 20 laps).

  • To give a flat donation - donations are collected online via GiveButter

  • To pledge by the lap - students will note and track your pledge via their paper pledge sheet and follow up after the event with the final total

  • We suggest a flat dollar amounts to eliminate the need for follow up

The Move-a-Thon is this Friday, May 24 during school.

PTA Meeting Highlights

Thank you to everyone who came to our last PTA meeting of the year. It’s been an amazing year, and we couldn’t have done it without YOU! Thank you to all of our volunteers and donors for your time and effort to support the PTA, the school, and the students!

Some highlights of our discussion:

  • Principals Connolly and Remsen gave an update on the school and end of the year activities

    • Swings are on their way! Look out this summer for the installation of new swings on the playground

    • Kindergarten registration is now open

  • PTA President Kristin gave an update on Spring Fling (a success!), Teacher’s Appreciation Week (we knocked it out of the park) and provided details on the upcoming Move-a-Thon (it’s going to be fun!)

  • Vice President Katy provided an update on the Playground Project—with the new swings on their way, we are now planning for the next phase of improvements. More items will be added to the blacktop soon.

  • Believe it or not, we’re already prepping for next school year

    • We nominated and voted on our President and Vice President for next year. Congratulations Kate Normandin and Molly Nelson on your new roles!

    • We have a few leader openings for next year. If you’re looking for just one thing you can do to help, consider one of these roles! Each position has a solid foundational playbook, you will not starting from scratch. Reach out to SkillinSchoolPTA@gmail.com if you’re interested in becoming…

      • Fundraising Captain—take the lead on planning our big 3 fundraisers (No Frills, Raffle Calendar, Move-a-Thon)

      • Events Captain—brainstorm and plan events that bring the Skillin community together

      • Ice Cream Social Lead—coordinate planning for our ice cream social during open house that kicks off the school year

      • Family Nights Lead—coordinate planning for our fall and spring family fun nights

      • Playground Project Lead—form a plan for upcoming enhancements to the playground

      • Grant Writing Lead—research and apply for grants to increase funding for the PTA and Skillin

    • We’re always looking for new members (and there’s no fee to join!) If you’re looking to meet new people, make connections with other Skillin parents, and learn more about the school, consider coming to a PTA meeting. We have lots of fun and don’t take ourselves too seriously—we just want to create an awesome school experience for all Skillin students!
