Weekly Skillin Scoop

The best way to stay in the know about important dates, calls-to-action, and other information that impacts our Skillin Skyhawks each week. Please take a moment to read this week’s announcements!

Brickyard Hollow Bash is Tuesday!

Come celebrate the end of the school year with us! It’s our last restaurant night and we’re pulling out all the stops. Join us at Brickyard Hollow in Portland this Tuesday, May 28 from 5:00-10:00 for dinner, drinks, and more!

Not only will 5% of all sales go to the Skillin School PTA, we’re raffling off 4 tickets to the Sea Dogs and giving away free Skillin Skyhawks swag all night long!

The Move-a-Thon was a success!

The Move-a-Thon was last Friday and it was a blast! All Skillin students ran laps to raise money for our playground, recess equipment, and Learning Gardens. A big thank you to everyone who came to the Move-a-Thon—our amazing volunteers kept all students on track and hydrated, and the enthusiastic spectators gave everyone the motivation to keep moving!

The Move-a-Thom may be over, but there’s still two things to do:

  1. Calculate per lap pledges - Students use the pledge sheet to multiply per lap pledges by their total laps for the total amount due

  2. Collect pledges by May 31 - Students either bring checks (made out to Skillin School PTA) into school or ask sponsors to donate online via Venmo (@SkillinSchoolPTA) or GiveButter.com/Moveathon

A big thank you to our sponsor Troiano Waste!

Thanks to a generous donation from Troiano Waste, each student also received a Skillin Skyhawks water bottle to take home.

The Last Playground Meetup is Next Sunday

It’s our last Playground Meetup of the schoolyear! Come to the Skillin playground next Sunday, June 2 from 1:00-3:00 for an afternoon of drinks, snacks, and lots of fun with other Skillin families.

Volunteer Opportunities for the Rest of the Year

Have you been wanting to volunteer in the school? It’s not too late! We still have 2 fun events planned, but we need volunteers to help everything run smoothly. It’s a small commitment, we have many 30 minute volunteer slots available, and you can volunteer to work with specific grades and classes.

Upcoming volunteer opportunities:

  • Friday, 6/7 | Greening Day - help plant, landscape and make the school grounds look great during our annual Spring cleanup day.

    • 10:00-3:15, 30 minutes slots available

    • Volunteer for a specific activity, grade, and class

  • Monday, 6/10 | Field Day - help run a station or activity for this all school, outdoor event being hosted by Coach C.

    • 9:10-11:00 (grades 3-4) and 12:55-2:45 (grades K-2), 2 hour slots available

    • Choose to volunteer by activity and grade (don’t worry, the kids will know how to play each activity)

To volunteer in the school, you must complete 2 simple steps:

  1. Submit an Annual Background Check

  2. Complete an online Volunteer Training (only 20 minutes)
