Weekly Skillin Scoop: Playground Meetup, Ice Cream Social and more!
The best way to stay in the know about important dates, calls-to-action, and other information that impacts our Skillin Skyhawks each week. Please take a moment to read this week’s announcements!
The First Playground Meetup is Next Sunday!
It’s the first Playground Meetup of Fall! Join us on the Skillin playground next Sunday, 10/5 from 1:00-3:00 for an afternoon of music, snacks, and lots of fun.
Shop and Give Back!
Now’s your chance to make a difference while scoring 20% off your favorite styles from Tea Collection! Enter promo code SDF24SKILLIN at checkout on teacollection.com before Tuesday, 10/8, and not only will you save, but Tea Collection will donate 15% of your purchase to the Skillin School PTA. It’s a win-win!
Save the Date: Family Information Night and Ice Cream Social
Please join us on Thursday, October 10th from 5:00-6:00 for Family Information Night and Ice Cream Social! One of our favorite events of the year, kick off the school year by getting to know the school better and meeting other Skillin families on the playground.
Check out the information fair in the gym to learn more about the school-wide PBIS (Positive Behavior Support and Intervention) initiative, what it means for Skillin Skyhawks to SOAR, the Safety Response Protocol, and more.
Join the PTA for ice cream on the playground and more!
Please note: this will not be a time to visit your child’s classroom or meet with their teacher—conferences will be held later in the fall.
We need volunteers! Are you able to volunteer for a 1/2 hour between 4:30-6:30 to help us set up, scoop, and pass out ice cream?
PTA Meeting Recap
Thanks to everyone who came out on a rainy night for the September PTA Meeting on Thursday! Some highlights of our discussion:
Principal Connolly gave an update on Skillin:
The start of school is going great! Students and teachers are settled into their new routines.
The Skillin School Action Plan for 2024-25 has been developed by the Building Leadership Team and Instructional Leadership Team and focuses on 4 goals:
Reduce the Chronic Absenteeism rate from 11.6% to 10%
Support growth and achievement in Literacy and Math by increasing the number of students who score 41% or higher on the NWEA Growth assessment by 5%
Continue development of a positive school climate through increased student and staff engagement in school-wide initiatives
Kate gave and update on the PTA and our goals for the year:
Continue the momentum of the past 2 years
Engage and bring on new members
Meet our fundraising goal of $16,000
Continue to improve the playground
Address the Learning Gardens
The 2024-25 PTA budget was approved (find a summary here)

We’re always looking for new members (and there’s no fee to join!) If you’re looking to meet new people, make connections with other Skillin parents, and learn more about the school, consider coming to a PTA meeting. We have lots of fun and don’t take ourselves too seriously—we just want to create an awesome school experience for all Skillin students!
Join us at our next meeting on November 14, from 6:00 to 7:00 in the Skillin Art Room!
