Skillin Newsletter from Principal Connolly (Mid-May)
Hello Skillin Families!
The spring weather has finally arrived and it looks like we will have some nice days ahead of us! Please make sure your child’s name is written on the inside of their jackets and sweatshirts! We are finding a lot of items on the playground after recess. If you are missing items, please encourage your child to check the lost and found in front of the main office.
Please pay close attention to messages from your child’s teacher and check red totes on Wednesdays. There are a lot of end of the year dates and events to keep track of. Some of them are shared below, but grade level information will come from your child’s teacher directly.
Any parent/guardian hoping to volunteer for a field trip or activity during the school day, must complete volunteer training. If you have any questions about that, please contact Bryna Latham, SPSD Community Partnerships, at lathambr@spsdme.org.
We are looking forward to an exciting end of the school year! Thank you for sending your child to school everyday - we love having them at Skillin!
Class Placement for next year
As the 2022-23 school year winds down, we turn our attention to planning for next school year. An important part of that planning is class placement for our students.
Class placements will be done over the summer using information and data from students’ current teachers, including special education, ESOL, and RtI specialists, as well as input from parents/guardians. Mrs. Connolly and Mrs. Remsen will use this information to create classes that are heterogenously grouped and balanced for factors such as academic, social, and behavioral needs, gender identity, and inclusion of special education and multilingual students across all classrooms. Students and families will be informed, via letter, of class placement in late August.
We invite parents/guardians to give their input, ask questions, and share concerns they may have about their child’s placement. While we will not accept requests for a specific teacher, we do want to hear from you regarding your child’s learning style and academic and social-emotional needs.
If you would like to provide input or feedback regarding your child’s placement for next year, please do so, via email, to Mrs. Connolly at connolbe@spsdme.org by June 1st.
If you need assistance or have questions, please contact Mrs. Connolly or your child’s teacher.
